About The Casbah
In the mid-90s Casbah owner Steve Curtis went to New Orleans for a weekend -- and
stayed for five years. Drawn to the neighborhood atmosphere of French Quarter bars
and restaurants where he worked, he returned to St. John’s to open his own New Orleans
inspired bar and dining establishments – the focus on well prepared food and a relaxed
atmosphere.
The Casbah Restaurant serves classic American Bistro fare made from the best ingredients
available: locally sourced produce in season, Black Angus Tenderloin, Free Range
Chicken and eggs, Magret of duck, fresh cod and halibut, sashimi-grade Tuna and,
whenever possible, local, organic herbs.
The Casbah offers a comforting menu made up of classic dishes such as Black Angus
tenderloin with a red-wine demi-glace and garlic mashed potatoes; perfectly prepared
fresh fish with a drizzle of fragrant herb pesto; the ever-popular Free Range Chicken
Breast stuffed with fresh spinach and creamy feta with a delicate cream sauce and
pan seared vegetables; and a solid brunch menu with three delicious variations of
eggs benedict – over smoked salmon, smoked cod or rosemary ham, each with a choice
of classic or basil hollandaise – and there’s homemade banana bread French toast.
All of The Casbah meals and sauces are made to order, from scratch. The Casbah desserts
are also made from scratch by Betty Curtis, Steve’s mother, who incorporates butter,
cream, fresh berries, good chocolate and butter croissants into her well-loved homemade
desserts: croissant bread puddings, rich carrot cakes or cheesecakes, panna cottas
or crème caramels, mousse cakes or her extraordinarily delicious black forest cake
with dark chocolate ganache, freshly whipped cream and tart cherries.
Customers have come to count on The Casbah for tasty, hearty and substantial dinner
and brunch plates and intriguing daily menu additions -- specials that are devised
based on what’s fresh and available inspired by a love of cooking.
